What ingredients do I need to make these?
Ground beef: I like to use an 80/20 ground beef, but it’s up to you!
Shallots: Chopped up and mixed in with the burger, it gives the perfect delicately sweet but sharp flavor.
Worcestershire
Spicy brown mustard
Garlic powder
Salt
Black pepper
Hamburger buns
Goat cheese
Caramelized onions
Fig jam
Arugula
How do you caramelize onions?
I use this recipe. There are a lot of caramelized onion recipes out there but I find this recipe by far the most helpful. It even includes storing tips so you can make caramelized onions ahead of time!
What kind of ground beef should I use?
I like to use a ground chuck. If you don’t use this and go with ground beef, make sure to buy an 80/20 blend. This gives you a perfectly juicy burger without it being too dry or too greasy.
How do I make burger patties?
First, mix the seasonings, shallots, Worcestershire, and mustard in with the ground beef so the ingredients are evenly distributed. Do not over mix the burgers, it will make them too tough.
Next, divide the beef mixture into 4 patties (less if you want larger burgers or make more patties if you want thinner patties!).
Then, form the patties and cook them on a grill or stovetop to their desired doneness!
Next, put together the burger on toasted buns with goat cheese, fig jam, arugula, and spicy brown mustard!
Tips and tricks:
Only flip once: This helps keep the burgers from falling apart.
Do not press down too hard when forming the patties. This will make the patties tougher than they should be.
Toast the bun! It gives the burger the perfect little crunch.
What temperature should the burger be when it’s done cooking?
Depends how you like it, so here’s a handy little guide:
RARE: 120 to 125 degrees, 2 to 3 minutes per side
MEDIUM RARE: 130 to 135 degrees, 3 to 4 minutes per side
MEDIUM: 140 to 145 degrees, 4 to 5 minutes per side.
MEDIUM-WELL: 150 to 155 degrees, 5 to 6 minutes per side.
WELL-DONE BURGER: 160 degrees and up, 6+ minutes and up per side
*160 degrees is recommend for safe beef consumption
